Dyson Racing is a professional sports car racing team based in Poughkeepsie, New York in the United States. Founded by Rob Dyson (former owner of WPDH radio) in 1974, the team is one of the longest-running and most successful privateer racing organizations. Over the years, it has competed in IMSA GTO and GTP, SCCA Trans-Am, Grand-Am, and CART. Rob Dyson has since retired from day-to-day operations, leaving control to his son Chris.
During the 2009 season, the team competed in the LMP2 class of the American Le Mans Series with Mazda Lola B08/80s, employing Chris Dyson, Butch Leitzinger, Guy Smith, and Marino Franchitti as drivers. Chris Dyson and Guy Smith shared the team's #16 entry, while Butch Leitzinger and Marino Franchitti pilot car #20. Ben Devlin joined the #20 team for the 12 Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans.
Dyson upgraded their Lola B08/80's for the 2011 American Le Mans Series season to make them LMP1 competitors. They entered the #16 car for every race of the season, which was driven by Guy Smith and Chris Dyson. Jay Cochran joined them for the 12 Hours of Sebring and the Petit Le Mans. They had a #20 entry from the 2011 Northeast Grand Prix onwards. This entry was driven by Humaid Al Masood and Steven Kane. They were joined by Butch Leitzinger for the 2011 Monterey Sports Car Championships and Petit Le Mans. Guy Smith and Chris Dyson won the LMP1 championship after the Monterey round with a 32 point gap over the second place car. [1] [2] [3]
